The Houston Humane Society is helping pet owners prepare for hurricane season by hosting a Hurricane and Disaster Preparedness Event every Sunday in July for pet owners. Microchipping gives your pet the very best chance of returning back to you if they become lost. In addition, your pet must be up to date on vaccines to be able to enter most shelters, hotels, and pet boarding facilities.
Statistics to back it up:
According to the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association), dogs without microchips were returned to their owners 21.9% of the time, whereas microchipped dogs were returned 52.2% of the time. Their feline counterparts fared even worse. Cats without microchips were reunited with their owners only 1.8% of the time whereas microchipped cats went back home 38.5% of the time.
