 Pit Bull rescue

HOUSTON (June 11th, 2007)—The Houston Humane Society and Precinct 6’s R.A.I.D.E.R. Animal Cruelty Investigation team was brought in by HPD to seize over 40 pit bull dogs from a property in northwest Houston.  Neighbors originally called the HPD about a pit bull terrorizing the neighborhood, and officers discovered the property full of dogs upon investigation.

The dogs were staked on chains so heavy that two police vehicles had to be tied together to pull them out of the ground.  Also found on the property was a spring pole, used for strengthening the jaws of fighting dogs.  Many of the dogs on the property were covered in scars indicative of fighting, and some were also branded with the owner’s initial.  Some of the dogs appeared malnourished and had signs of illness, in addition to their injuries.

 Alleged Cock-Fighting Ring

The Houston Humane Society R.A.I.D.E.R. Animal Cruelty Investigation team seized over 150 roosters from a property near Hobby airport on July 27th.

The Houston Humane Society’s R.A.I.D.E.R. team investigated the possible cock fighting ring, which included not only the roosters but also the steroids and fighting paraphernalia common to cock-fighting.  The tenant on the property allowed the officers at the scene to take possession of the roosters.

The roosters were segregated in individual pens, and fecal matter was observed running off into standing water on the property, which constitutes a health hazard.  Sgt. Mark Timmers and Deputy Pat Leone of R.A.I.D.E.R. brought the roosters back to the Houston Humane Society.
