Looking for love this Valentine's Day? Beginning February 10th, visit Houston Humane Society and enjoy half off adoption fees! Houston Humane Society is partnering with local shelters to ask YOU to "Have a heart at half the price"!

In addition, on February 11th from 11 AM to 1 PM, a Comfortis representative will be on site to hand out free samples of product to each person who visits during this time. There is a limit of one dose per person. All adoptions on February 11th will receive a free dose of Comfortis as will. Our clinic will be discounting all Comfortis purchases by $5 between February 10th and February 29th.

HHS will neuter 500 male cats for FREE for the general public. Click here for more details and find out how to book an appointment. Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the homeless animals at the Houston Humane Society. Volunteers are the backbone to keeping Houston's homeless animals healthy and happy. Whether you want to help better the lives of the homeless animals, or you want to prevent abuse by raising awareness of the tragedies that occur when people stop caring for animals, your efforts really make a difference! Hours cannot be used toward court-ordered community service for probation purposes. The minimum age to volunteer is 12 years of age.Volunteers between the ages of 12 and 15 must volunteer with their parent or legal guardian at all times. Both individuals must sign up for, and attend the Family Volunteer Orientation. Volunteers under the age of 16 volunteering at the shelter or HHS event without a parent or guardian will be asked to leave. Fostering a needy pet is a richly rewarding experience. It's also an emotional, often difficult experience that isn't for

everyone - but for those that can do it, it's an experience that won't soon be forgotten. Houston Humane Society is

always in desperate need of foster families, especially right now. First, let's talk about what kinds of pets may need

foster care:

Sick pets - Because HHS is an open admission shelter, meaning we do not turn away any animal, we often take in animals that are too sick to go up for adoption. Some of them need a quiet place to recover as well as some additional care.

Too young! - HHS often takes in animals that are simply too young, or may even still be nursing. Sometimes they

Behavior - Often an animal that has been neglected or may be too timid needs a couple of weeks with a foster to learn that being with people can be a good thing. Sometimes pets at the shelter just need a break, and a foster home can give them a quiet place to de-stress.

HOW TO BECOME A PET FOSTER:

It's quite easy, download an application here, or email foster@houstonhumane.org to begin the approval process.

Burnie in Memorium

It is with a very heavy heart and tear filled eyes that we report our beloved Burnie has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. She was nearing her 18th birthday and has been a vital member of the HHS team for the past 16 years. She was a true survivor and one of the lucky ones that had many years of love and care. In 1996, two young teens tied a 2 year old shepherd/chow mix to a tree, doused her with gasoline and set her on fire. Luckily a police officer caught them in the act and immediately called HHS to help. Although she had third-degree burns, our HHS Clinic staff immediately began dealing with her physical wounds and the process of rehabilitation began. Throughout the dressing changes and other treatments, she remained friendly and loving to everyone. She was named Burnadette and became the HHS canine mascot, replacing Annie who had served for 15 years. The nickname Burnie helped kids identify with her and remember her story. Burnie took her job as ambassador...

Good animal protection bills were killed -- not because they lacked merit and support -- but because they fell victim to House and Senate trade-offs and bill sabotage that served neither the interest of the decent people of this state nor the animals. To this end, the puppy millers and the cockfighters, who shared the same legislative counsel, are savoring their joint victories as the clear winners of the 2009 Legislative session. The losers?
