At Houston Humane Society, we see a lot of animals that come in needing help for various reasons. Our top notch veterinary team saves animals on a daily basis. But often we get animals that need some extra TLC in the makeover department. These special dogs typically come in as strays or from severe neglect situations, and they need extreme makeovers to turn them from matted messes to cutie patooties. Some MakeRover Magic happening at HHS! Check out sweet Canelo. He's a 2 year-old poodle mix. He was turned in by his owner, and he was in bad shape. A pretty intense haircut and a date with our dog bather helped Canelo feel like a new pup! Now he's ready to meet the family of his dreams. Visit Canelo today at Houston Humane Society.
Brownie's an amazing dog with an awesome personality. He's feeling like a brand new guy after getting his crazy, matted, dirty hair shaved. He's playful, friendly and SO ready for a brand new home complete with a family to love him forever! Please share Brownie with friends and family, help us find this sweet boy (who doesn't shed by the way!!!) a home. What a difference a haircut can make!!! Thanks to a wonderful volunteer, Annjeanette Yglesias, Alex got a makeover! This sweet pup has been at the shelter since April 21st. It's past time for him to find a new family. He loves to dance on his hind legs for treats, likes to cuddle up close to you and LOVES toys. He's fun, friendly and super affectionate. Please, please share Alex' story with friends. Help find this awesome, adorable dog a new home. He's about 2 years old and we think he is a lhasa/terrier mix. He's small, silky haired and doesn't shed. Alex has found his forever home.
Poor Biscuit was so matted and dirty when he came to HHS. He was an owner surrender because they didn't have time to care for him, and it definitely showed. The little guys had to be completely shaved down to the skin because of all of the mats in his hair. His previous owner reported that he was kept inside and is crate-trained. Biscuit walks well on a leash, loves people, he's very affectionate and great with kids. He loves toys, especially squeaky ones! He knows the no and come commands. If left outside alone he will dig, so it's important that his new family keep him indoors. Biscuit has found his forever home!
Randy was an owner surrender because his family had a baby, and his owners decided they didn't want him anymore. Unfortunately, they'd been neglecting Randy for quite some time. He came in to HHS completely matted to the skin, and he's also heartworm positive. The mats were so bad our team had to shave him down to the skin. His gorgeous coat is starting to come back in, and you can see just how cute of a Pomeranian he is! Randy also needs a very patient and loving home. He was very timid and shy when he first arrived, he was afraid to be picked up or even petted. He's gone through a complete transformation here at the shelter. He's walking on a leash and can be handled by our staff and volunteers. With the right home, Randy will continue to come out of his shell and show off his awesome personality. Randy has found his forever home!
Meet Patty! Patty is a 2 year-old, 7 pound maltese mix that came to HHS on April 30th. When Patty arrived, she was matted all the way down to her skin, and to make matters worse, she was covered in sticker burs! The poor little pooch was in bad shape! We quickly went to work, and look at the BIG smile on her face once all of those mats and sticker burs were gone! Patty has found her forever home!
Holy Moly! There was an oodle under all that hair (that's what we call all these designer poodle mixes around here)! It's always hard to tell what a poodle might be mixed with, but Jambalaya is a little bigger than a mini poodle would be. He came to HHS at 2 years old, and he was an owner turn in. He needed a little work on training and he was heartworm positive. After a new ‘do, Jambalaya found his new forever home!
When Sandy arrived at Houston Humane Society, she was in pretty bad shape. Her hair was completely matted down to her skin and extremely dirty. She was underweight and very fearful of everyone, especially men.
Our staff and volunteers worked hard to make sure Sandy knew she is loved and cared for. In the short time she was at HHS, she had a full makeover and Sandy really started to come out of her shell. In a matter of weeks she was letting people hold and cuddle her, and she liked to take short walks on a leash. Thanks to our dedicated staff and volunteers and a great new ‘do, Sandy found a loving family to give her all the love and patience she deserves and needs.
