Hi,
Caught your email addy on facebook and thought that I would share our little story with you.

My daughter and I visited your facility last year, after we saw a dog on your website that we liked . Fortunately, by the time we got there, he was already adopted. At first we were very disappointed, and we decided to look at some of the other adoptables. As we entered one of the buildings, the noise was deafening. Barking, dogs jumping up on the doors, just a lot of noise. Then I noticed in one of the enclosures sitting right by the door, Buddy (first picture). He was not making a sound, just sitting there, watching and every now and then shivering. I asked one of the volunteers if we could take him out and spend some time with him. When the young lady arrived with the leash, Buddy underwent a transformation. His tail curled up on his back, his head went up, and he was the perfect dog on the leash. Not pulling, always keeping an eye on the handler, I could not believe it. We spent about 20 minutes outside with Buddy and we knew that this was "our" dog. One drawback was, Buddy was heartworm positive. We were prepared to take the chance, and over the next couple of months he underwent the treatment at your Vet facility and came through with flying colors.

Buddy is now a very welcome addition to our family. As you can see by the second picture, he is quite handsome once groomed. I can't thank you enough for this wonderful pup.

To My Dear Rescuers at HHS:

This is Chanel (far left in picture and known as Hanna before I brought her home).  Chanel is a Chinese Crested and was rescued from a puppy mill in Houston in January of 2011.  I want to thank you so much for allowing me to adopt this precious little thing.  She has become part of my family and her brother and sister, Gucci and Lola, also Chinese Crested, love her as much as I do.  After falling in love with her, I found out she had tested positive for heart worms.  A little hesitant and scared at first to put Chanel through the treatment due to her poor condition, I could not resist and found it my personal mission to bring this little angel back to good health.  I am happy to report that Chanel has gone through the treatment program and has just recently been re-tested for heart worms and has tested negative!!!!

Hi Friends.
We are introducing NIKKI our new dog and Narnia's new companion.  We love her very much.  Narnia and her get along like they've been together all their lives.  Narnia is part Chinese Crested and Jack Russell terrier.  Nikki is full blooded hairless Chinese Crested, weighs in at 9 lbs. and is fifteen months old and came here to our home through wonderful rescue for Cresties in New Hampshire.  I have wanted this breed for a long time, Carl was more than receptive so here she is.  Narnia is now the Queen and Nikki the Princess.
Nikki came out of a puppy mill in Houston, TX where more than 250 of these precious dogs were rescued and divided into groups across the country.  Nikki was fostered in Louisiana by a great foster mom who she learned to trust made her into a very happy girl.  Nikki asks me to tell all those who've taken my life in their hands and treated me and my fellow Chinese Crested with the most tender loving care a great big Thank You.  God Bless You!

Lovingly,
C and L

I adopted both Jinger and Madison through HHS.  Jinger was adopted 3 years ago and Madison about 4 months ago.  I brought Jinger with me to help me decide which dog to bring home.  After seeing 6 dogs I couldn't decide and Jinger did not seem to interact with any of them.  They had two more dashounds left to see.  They brought Madison in and Jinger and Madison where acting like long lost friends.  So Madison came home with us that day.  Madison had heartworms and was treated and is perfectly healthy now.

Timber, a Siberian Husky/Akita/Golden Retriever mix, was adopted on January 14, 1998.  He was just 11.5 weeks old.  This year, on November 1st, Timber will be 14 years young.  Timber has never met a person or a dog that he hasn't liked.  Timber is a charmer and a love dog... always willing to give you a lick or nuzzle whether he just met you today or has known you his whole life.

Timber has helped at volunteer events for Husky Haven, Texas Alaskan Malamute Rescue and the Houston Humane Society and pawtipates annually in the K9 Fun Run (so far he has attended 13 years in a row) and the Houston Aeros Chilly's Pet Pals nights.  Timber also has birthday pawties and asks for donations to HHS instead of gifts... he knows there are animals that have not found their forever homes yet.  Timber was a certified therapy dog when he was younger and still gives his own medicine to people that he thinks needs it by walking up and giving kisses to anyone who will let him.

Timber is a special type of dog.  He may not always be the healthiest (especially now that he is older) but he is determined to make the most of every situation, never judges, is nice to everyone, always patient (even with foster puppies and petsit pups that stay with us) and he never complains when volunteering for entire weekends of pet rescue events.  It's hard to believe he has been my best friend for so long.  He is always willing to listen and offer a wag or lick when I need it.

I can't thank the Houston Humane Society enough for giving him a chance and letting him be part of my life.  He and I have grown up together and I can't think of a better "person" to grow up with.

Kindest Wishes,
LM

Wilma and Chocula are doing wonderfully well.  Chocula attended puppy classes earlier this year in order to socialize her.  She is a bit anti-other animals (except the ones in the household) but loves people.  She loves to play and has a couple of toys that rarely leave her mouth (as you can see in the photo)!  Both she and Wilma have learned the basic obedience commands and are absolute loves!  With 4 dogs in the household, they have all learned to take turns getting one-on-one lovin' time.... then there are the "dog pile on mom" times as well!  Wilma is absolutely amazing!  Given her history as a puppy mill dog, you would expect all sorts of issues... but she is one that you just can't ruin!  She is loving and wants nothing more than to be around you.  She has "her" spot on the sofa... edged up against the arm.  You would never guess her background or that she is blind in one eye and toothless!

I want to thank all of you at the Houston Humane Society for caring so deeply for these two precious girls and waiting for the perfect "match"... they are a very special addition to our home!

I thought you guys would like to see some photos of the "new" Chloe!  It took 4 appointments with different groomers and vets before I found someone that was able to come out of her shell.  (Some groomers said she needed to gain weight before they'd shave her!)  Talk about a "Diamond in the Ruff"!!  I had NO idea she would be this beautiful!!  And she's WHITE!!! lol  She is so happy, she even wags her tail in her sleep!!!  She's got all the best pet foods to safely put the weight back on her bones, more toys than she'll ever know what to do with, a variety of fancy collars and her very own spot on our bed, right between Jade and I!  She is such a perfect perfect angel!!  Thank you so much for helping us find her!!

Hugs,
C and J and Chloe

Here is our beautiful little Sealy girl! She was formerly known as Shiva. This dear little dog was rescued
from a puppy mill last year in Panola County. She was heartworm positive and had to undergo treatment.
She coughed for a few months following treatment but happily is healthy and energetic now. She has
totally outgrown her shyness and has become a real lap dog. She loves playing with her BT cousins and
her 2 big sisters. Still doesn’t like her baths, though. We are so grateful to have her. Thank you HHS for
rescuing this animal and others.

The H Family...
Hello HHS family,
I just want to thank you so much for Louie, he was known as Balatzahar while he was in your care.  Louie is super duper loved and is enjoying his forever home.  I adopted Louie back in 07/2010 and he is the best dog I could ever ask for.  He attends doggie day cares and also social play time and dog parks.  Louie just recently had a birthday, 07/20/2011, and I celebrated it.  I bought him his own doggie cake and bought him lots of presents which he loved!  I want to thank the HHS family for bringing Louie into my life.  As you can see he is doing wonderful and loving life.

Dear HHS,
Over a year ago my boyfriend and I adopted a shy little miniature pinscher named Drake.  He was such a sad looking dog when we brought him home but now you'd think we've had him forever.  He has definitely changed our outlook on adopting.  Drake has brought so much joy into our lives and I don't know what we would do without him.  Thank you so much for everything you do to help these animals find their forever homes.

Sincerely,
The R Family
