441 Days, Two Dogs, One Wish—A Home
At the Houston Humane Society, every animal has a story—and some have been waiting far too long for their next chapter. Harlee Jean and Vegas are two of our long-term residents, and together, they've spent 441 days in the shelter. But recently, these sweet girls stepped into the spotlight for a day of glam and smiles alongside the Houston Sabercats players—and they nailed it.
These canine queens became cover stars for the upcoming June issue of Pet Talk Magazine, available on newsstands everywhere. Their patience, charm, and resilience were on full display during the photo shoot, and both dogs handled the cameras, crowds, and cuddles like total pros. A huge thank you to the Sabercats and Pet Talk Magazine for helping our shelter pets shine—you won’t want to miss this heartwarming feature!
Now, Harlee Jean and Vegas are hoping their modeling debut leads them one step closer to a forever home.

Harlee Jean – 235 Days in the Shelter
Tri-pawd, full heart. Meet Harlee Jean, our beloved tripod superstar! This gentle, sweet girl has captured hearts at the shelter with her loving personality and unshakable spirit. Even with only three legs, Harlee doesn’t let anything hold her back. She walks great on a leash, loves belly rubs and ear scratches, and shows off the cutest “tripod zoomies” when she’s extra excited.
Calm and affectionate, Harlee Jean is the perfect snuggle buddy. She’s also a quick learner who loves showing off her tricks—especially if treats are involved. Harlee would thrive in a home where she’s the only pet, as she prefers the comfort of humans over other canine companions.
After 235 days in the shelter, she’s more than ready for a second chance. Harlee would do best as the only dog in the home—she loves being the center of attention and having all the love to herself.
Vegas – 206 Days in the Shelter
Two years old and full of life! Meet Vegas, a sweet shepherd mix who’s all about kisses, cuddles, and making new friends. She’s been with us for 206 days and is still waiting for someone to take a chance on her.
Vegas loves people and absolutely thrives on human interaction. Whether she’s handing out kisses or charming volunteers with her eager sit for treats, she’s always looking to please. Right now, she’s being fostered at Hounds Town Houston Midtown, where she’s having a blast playing with other dogs. With her fun-loving nature, beautiful smile, and ability to get along well with other dogs, she’d make a wonderful addition to a loving home!
She was also a standout during the Pet Talk photo shoot—posing like a pro and soaking up attention from the Sabercats players!
