Canine influenza is a relatively new disease commonly referred to as “dog flu,” and can be caused by two different canine influenza viruses. Just like human flu is among humans, canine influenza is highly contagious among dogs. In fact, unless a dog has already had the illness and recovered, almost every dog exposed to the virus will become infected.
To better serve our patients, the Houston Humane Society’s Animal Wellness Clinic is now seeing exam patients by appointment only. To book your appointment, please call 713-341-3315 or request an appointment online.
The HHS Animal Wellness Clinic will be closed August 8-20 for some much needed repairs and renovations. We apologize for the inconvenience, and please continue to check our website. We will update immediately when we are back to a 7 day schedule.
The Houston Humane Society is proud to partner with Houston Police Department, Crime Stoppers of Houston, Harris County Constable's Office Precinct 5, The Harris County District Attorney's Office, and Houston PetSet for Monty's Task Force.
The Houston Humane Society has an urgent need for donations of new and gently used towels. We use hundreds of towels each day, and over time they get worn out. Our surgery team uses a fresh towel for each spay/neuter patient, caging is lined with soft towels, sick animals are often swaddled and cleaned with towels, and of course we use them for drying animals after bath time and general cleaning purposes. You can drop off or mail new or gently used towels at our shelter at 14700 Almeda Rd., Houston, TX 77053.
Early morning hours, June 2nd
Thieves smashed in the front door of the clinic building at the Houston Humane Society in the dark of night.
Luckily they could not get back to where the animals are, but they did manage to steal equipment and make a horrible mess. We’ve cleaned up and are open and currently helping clinic clients.
We have security cameras, but are praying that no one comes back to do more harm until we can get an upgraded monitoring system and higher resolution digital camera surveillance system. Not only do we want to protect our furry residents but also want to catch and prosecute anyone we can identify that breaks into our facility.
Thanks for caring about animal protection.
