May is National Horse Month and we're excited to share Garrick’s story!
This is what his new guardian, Katharen, has to say:
“From the moment I saw him posted, I instantly knew he was something special. He was skinny when we first brought him home, but with time, care, and patience, he has gained so much weight and is looking healthier every day.
He was shy at first, and I remember trying just about every treat I could think of, he wouldn’t touch any of them. But as the weeks went on and his personality started to come out and he learned to trust me, that all changed. Now he loves all sorts of treats and will definitely let you know when he wants one.
He’s calm, easygoing, and such a joy to be around. He will do anything you ask of him; from trail rides, to pole work, to patiently letting kids ride him. He’s also incredibly responsive under saddle and rides so smoothly. It’s been amazing to watch him grow and gain confidence.
We truly couldn’t have asked for a better horse, and we’re beyond grateful to the Houston Humane Society for bringing him into our lives!”
Garrick went from an underweight and undersocialized quarter horse, to a thriving friend who's picture ready for weddings. These are the stories that inspire us to continue our mission at Houston Humane Society.
