When we realized the devastating severity of the recent flooding in the Hill Country, the Houston Humane Society knew we had to step up.
Through our partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, we quickly connected with local Hill Country shelters to offer urgent support. We deployed our Chief Shelter Veterinarian to San Angelo to treat pets impacted by the floodwaters and dispatched our dedicated Animal Rescue Team with our mobile rescue unit.
So far, we’ve brought back 26 dogs and puppies who were already in overcrowded shelters. By pulling these pets, we help open up desperately needed space for animals lost, injured, or displaced by the floods.
On July 14, our rescue team is headed back to the San Angelo area to save another 17 dogs. Many were surrendered by families who have lost everything. We’re here to give these animals a second chance when they need it most.
