Dr. Malone's Bio

Dr. Tony Malone, Medical Director

Dr. Tony Malone joined the Houston Humane Society in August 2017 as Medical Director. In the year 2000, Dr. Malone graduated from Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine, and over his 20-year profession has gained extensive knowledge and acquired a very diverse background.
Dr. Malone started his veterinary career working as an emergency clinician for the Veterinary Emergency Referral Group (VERGI). Shortly after he also accepted a part time position at The Texas Heart Institute as a Clinical Veterinarian for cardiovascular studies.  After three and a half years of emergency medicine experience, Dr. Malone started working for Royal Canin Veterinary Diets as a Professional Services Veterinarian. After this interesting position in veterinary sales, he became a Partner Doctor at Banfield, The Pet Hospital, for the next five years.
In 2011, Dr. Malone became Chief Veterinarian for Houston’s largest municipal animal shelter, BARC Animal Shelter & Adoptions. In this six year period, his passion for shelter medicine was kindled. He decided to complete a U.C. Davis Shelter Medicine Fellowship in 2013 and has put into practice the knowledge he obtained to improve the Houston Humane Society’s clinic programs. Dr. Malone’s experience has increased HHS’s spay/neuter program, and increased communal awareness of the importance of vaccination and preventive medicine. “The Houston Humane Society is a wonderful organization that has allowed me to continue nurturing my love and passion to care for and help countless animals in my community,” said Dr. Malone.
